Full and Incremental Tape Backup

Choose whether to store full or incremental backup copies depending on your organization’s data protection policy. Incremental backups contain data of only those blocks that have changed, so they are smaller in size and help you save tape cartridge space.

Virtual Library Support

Take advantage of tape backups even if you don’t use tape media. NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports AWS Virtual Tape Library (VTL), which emulates physical tape libraries and protects your data from deletion or editing.

Ransomware Resilience

Removable tape media is physically disconnected (airgapped) from your LAN/WAN, so it can’t be hacked or attacked by ransomware. AWS VTL emulates tape media and locks your archive to protect backup data from getting overwritten. What tape environments are supported?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports:

How can AWS VTL replace physical backup tape libraries?

AWS Tape Gateway encrypts backup data both in transit and when data reaches the cloud storage. The service also supports Tape Retention Lock, WORM (write once, read many) and other security features to protect your data from deletion or modification. To lower archival costs, Amazon compresses your backups and retains them in the lowest-cost storage (Amazon S3 Glacier and Glacier Deep Archive).

Can NAKIVO’s solution discover tape cartridges in devices?

Yes. NAKIVO Backup & Replication discovers tape cartridges in your tape devices (cartridges discovered within RTLs should have barcodes). The NAKIVO backup tape software solution allows you to read backups from the discovered cartridges and send backups to them.

How can I ensure that tape backups are consistent and recoverable?

The NAKIVO enterprise tape backup software uses aware-mode for the consistency of the backed-up application and database data. The solution also uses Instant Verification to check the recoverability of VMware and Hyper-V backups and replicas. Run Instant Verification before sending your backup copy to tape to ensure that your VM backups are usable and can be recovered when needed.
